Emily Irene VanCamp, who was originally an professional dancer, was interested in the acting field after visiting her sister Katie on the Ladies Room set. When she was taking acting classes as well, she also got guest roles on Canadian TV series. Her appearances have been in a number of shows, including Are You afraid of The Dark? Radio Active and Dice. VanCamp achieved a major breakthrough after he was cast on the WB horror-mystery series Glory Days as Sam Dolan. The series was canceled after just nine episodes, despite getting favorable reviews. On May 12, 1986, the actress immediately secured a new role in Everwood. The character she plays Amy Abbott is one of the principal characters. The actress was nominated to win four Teen Choice Awards and a Young Artist Award.
